Bijapur is one of 57 Karnataka cities in the
Nirmala Nagara - Municipal eGovernance project. On Aug 15th 2005
each of the 57 cities will get a comprehensive website as well as
the Public Grievance & Redressal module. Other important modules to
be launched by June 2006 are Property
Tax, Financial Accounting GIS Mapping, Birth & Death
Certification, and Ward Works. Nirmala
Nagara project is a partnership between the
Urban Development Dept,
eGovernments Foundation & Survey of India. These computer based
systems coupled with Govt. process re-engineering and GIS digital
mapping will provide transparency and accountability and smoother
delivery of services to citizens of Karnataka. Your feedback and

Birth and Death Records Now Online
City
Municipal Council ,Bijapur has computerised online
issuing of Birth and Death Certificates from 26-11-2007
for the past 10 Years(1996 to 2005) and also online
registration of Birth and death records from 26-10-2006
onwards. Computerisation for the remaining years is
under progress.
Bijapur
is
best known for its magnificent Gol Gumbaz'
which is the
second
largest dome
in the world and other historical buildings, including
the Jamiya Masjid, which has been called one of the
first mosques in India. Located 530km north-west of
Bangalore, this ancient town was first settled in the
11th century by the Chalukyan dynasty and later rose to
prominence as the capital of the Adil Shahi dynasty.
Today, it is an important tourist destination in
Karnataka with its smorgasbord of places of historical,
cultural and architectural interes
TOUR OF BIJAPUR

There
was lot of scope for
agriculture in the district before submergence
due to
submergence. Bijapur was very famous for its cotton crop. Agriculture
is the main occupation. Jawar, cotton, sugar cane, ground nut,
bajra,
wheat are the main crops.Textile Industry is widespread in almost all
the talukas of the district. 'Ilkal sarees' of Ilkal, cotton
sarees
of Rabkavi-Banahtti, 'Khana' (Blouse Piece) of Guledagudda are well
known. Government of Karnataka started Handloom Development
Corporation (KHDC) in Banahatti town.
The
“Navanagar” which is four times bigger than
Bijapur, is developed on
the model designed by Mr. Charles Corea, the renowned architect and
town planner on the basis of Indian Vastushastra. It is equipped with
all modern facilities and civil amenities, which has a capacity to
accommodate about 2 lakh people, keeping in mind the development in the
next 100 years.
